Mowgli’s vine breaking may be a subtle parody of Tarzan (whose stories Morris Gollub - among others!
- also drew in comic form). Swinging on vines is of course a cliché of jungle comics and films,
but I believe that in real life they’re not flexible enough, and in any case grow upward, not down!
