So the four thieves lose their treasure, but they should think themselves lucky to have been spared by the adaptation!
Mowgli seems cleverer as well. In the original story he never does understand how the ankus killed its victims.
The final Mowgli story, The Spring Running, was not adapted. Perhaps it was felt that the ending was too downbeat.
